MM House
Project type
Residential
This house is a renovation project rooted in an American-style design language from the outset. However, over time, the existing layout and detailing began to present several functional and environmental challenges. After living in the house for a few years, the owners felt the need to re-evaluate the design to better support their daily lifestyle.
Key issues included insufficient storage, concerns related to dust mites and mold caused by aging paneling, and a spatial limitation that made relocating the piano from the ground floor to the upper level seem nearly impossible within the original layout.
Our approach focused on a comprehensive reconfiguration of the space. We introduced a new layout that improves circulation and functionality, allowing for the piano to be successfully relocated upstairs. In the dining area, we optimized storage capacity by integrating additional cabinetry, while simultaneously refining the proportions of the dining table—slightly reducing its size to create more breathing room without compromising seating capacity.
We also reworked the kitchen island, enlarging it to enhance usability and presence within the space. Overall, the design balances spatial efficiency with comfort, addressing previous concerns while maintaining the home’s original character in a more refined and livable way.
